Meet Our Sugar Land Optometrists
Alireza Somji, O.D.
Therapeutic Optometrist, Optometric Glaucoma Specialist
Dr. Somji was born and raised in Southern Africa, where he spent many years and attended the University of Cape Town before moving to Houston for further education. He earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry.
Dr. Somji's practice philosophy is to consider the entire visual system from structure to function. He spends a lot of time with patients and doesn't consider an evaluation to be a quick exam for a prescription only. He truly believes that over the years eyes and vision have become very underappreciated as vision care has become commoditized. Dr. Somji believes vision is not just 'seeing well' and as such has a special interest in functional binocular vision and performance sports vision. Dr. Somji is well respected in this field and is trusted by the Sugar Land Skeeters and the Houston Dynamo FC where he serves as a consultant to improve visual performance of professional athletes. He also gets referrals from sports medicine physicians to co-manage patients with concussions. Dr. Somji is a board member of the International Sports Vision Association and a member of the Neuro Optometric Rehab Association.
Dr. Somji's other clinical interests include myopia management (orthokeratology, soft lens myopia management and atropine therapy to help slow down children's nearsightedness), speciality custom contact lenses (sclerals, hybrid, gas permeable), dry eyes and eye disease management. Dr. Somji is trusted by many eye surgeons in the Houston metro area who refer patients for post operative care (LASIK and cataract) and specialty contact lens fitting for patients with keratoconus. He also lectures continuing education to other Optometrists on orthokeratology, hybrid custom contact lenses and performance vision, and to Texas Athletic Trainers on visual performance.
Along with Dr. Sana Somji, Dr. Somji launched Texas' first Dry Eye Spa where he treats patients with dry eye disease with the newest technology in eye care.Dr. Somji is a Therapeutic Optometrist and an Optometric Glaucoma Specialist and is licensed by the Texas Optometry Board. He is an Adjunct Clinical Instructor with the University of Houston College of Optometry. He is a proud member of the American Optometric Association, the Texas Optometric Association, the International Sports Vision Association, the Neuro Optometric Rehab Association, and the American Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control.. Dr. Somji also serves as a Regional Leader for the Professional Eye Care Associates of America.
During his training at UH College of Optometry, Dr. Somji was awarded several awards for outstanding leadership ability and is a lifetime member of the prestigious Gold Key International Optometric Honor Society. Dr. Somji has worked at the Texas Eye Research and Technology Center as a clinical contact lens investigator. He has guest lectured at the Student Optometric Practice Management Association and has served in an ambassadorial role to optometry school students in Texas on behalf of The Vision Council; a non-profit organization.
Outside of the office, along with his wife Dr. Sana Somji who is also an Optometrist, Dr. Somji enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, outdoor adventure activities and playing soccer! He is an avid soccer fan and supports Liverpool Football Club and Houston Dynamo FC. He also enjoys watching all Houston sports teams.
Sana Somji, O.D.
Therapeutic Optometrist, Optometric Glaucoma Specialist
Dr. Sana Somji grew up in Dubai before she moved to Sugar Land in 2000. She graduated from Clements High School in Sugar Land in 2002 and attended the University of Houston for her undergraduate degree. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry.
Dr. Sana (she prefers to go by this since Dr. Alireza Somji goes by Dr. Somji!) is a Therapeutic Optometrist and Optometric Glaucoma Specialist and is licensed by the Texas Optometry Board. Her areas of interest are dry eye, myopia management with orthokeratology and FDA approved soft treatment lenses, contact lenses and LASIK pre and post-operative care.Dr. Sana specialized in dry eye disease diagnosis and treatment in our Dry Eye Spa. She performs Intense Pulsed Light treatments to treat dry eye disease.In addition to working at Horizon Eye Care & Optical, Dr. Sana works alongside a renowned eye surgeon in Houston and specializes in LASIK pre and post-op care, pterygium surgery pre and post-op care and managing keratoconus patients.
Outside of the office, Dr. Sana enjoys spending time with her family and friends, trying new restaurants and traveling.

Optician
Thu is our head optician. She is very knowledgeable about frame styling and eyeglass selection. She enjoys helping patients find the best fitting frames, as well as the best possible lenses based on their prescription and lifestyle. Thu makes sure that each patient receives a quality frame that suits them! In addition to opcitian, Thu also helps with patient intake, insurance and check-out. In her free time, she likes to explore the many different restaurants that Houston has to offer!
Cristina
Patient Coordinator
Cristina can do everything in our practice! She is an office superstar but mainly does patient billing, intake and check-out. She is also a skilled optician and helps our doctors with patient workups and testing when needed.
Josue
Optometric Tech Assistant
Josue is our optometric assistant and very skilled at taking diagnostic images in our practice. He also knows everything about contact lenses and is responsible for getting your contact orders in so quickly! Josue also helps with patient intake and scheduling.
Silvia
Patient Coordinator
Silvia is our patient coordinator and is the first to answer the phones and schedule appointments! Silvia mainly does patient check-in, check-out and insurance verifications and submissions.
