Medical Eye Exam & Wellvision

At Horizon Eye Care & Optical, medical eye exams are conducted using the latest technology and advanced diagnostics. Drs. Alireza and Sana Somji will inspect your eyes thoroughly to detect or rule out any ocular conditions. The early signs of eye disease, such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts, and diabetic retinopathy can only be identified during a professional eye exam. If you are diagnosed with an eye disease, we will monitor and manage it to prevent vision loss.

Technological advances enable earlier and more precise diagnosis of eye diseases. We keep up with medical progress and technology. Depending on your needs, we may use procedures such as retinal scanning and digital imagery.

As a family-friendly practice, we will evaluate the visual system of all members of your family, at all ages. With kids, a pediatric eye exam can spot an undetected vision condition that may interfere with learning and child development. Drs. Alireza and Sana Somji are professionals at checking kids’ eyes – so they have a pleasant, positive experience visiting the eye doctor.

Checking for sharp visual acuity is another important part of every eye exam. During a Wellvision eye exam, Drs. Alireza and Sana Somji will perform a refraction test to measure and determine your vision prescription. If you need vision correction, we will prescribe an accurate and detailed prescription for eyeglasses and/or contact lenses.

Wellvision Eye Exams

An eye exam is recommended for everyone at least once a year. If you are generally not in good health, have a family history of ocular disease or diabetes, or you are currently on medication that could cause negative side effects to your eyes, then eye care experts recommend more frequent evaluations.

At Horizon Eye Care & Optical, our optometrists provide thorough Wellvision eye exams. These examinations consist of much more than a quick assessment of your vision. Our eye doctors will perform a refractive exam and check your vision comprehensively to see if you need prescription eyewear or to confirm your vision prescription.

In addition to vision testing, we will inspect your eyes closely for any signs of ocular health problems, such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts, retinal tears or holes, and diabetic retinopathy. If we notice that you have signs of any of these eye diseases, you will be instructed to book a follow-up comprehensive eye exam in order to design an effective treatment plan.

Along with looking for eye diseases, your eye exam serves as an important medical diagnostic assessment. It can reveal the presence of an undiagnosed health condition, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol because all of these conditions can appear on the inner tissues of your eyes. Therefore, a Wellvision eye exam accomplishes three important functions:

  1. It can help you see more clearly
  2. It can detect signs of many common health conditions
  3. It can diagnose or rule out eye diseases

If you have vision insurance, your routine Wellvision eye exam will usually be covered once a year.

We encourage all of our patients to be proactive and preventative about their vision! Taking care of your eyes should always be an essential part of your regular healthcare regimen.

Eyeglasses and contact lenses both need to be fitted correctly to work well! We will ensure that your vision prescription is precise and up-to-date. In addition, our eye doctors will perform contact lens eye exams to check for any pre-existing eye conditions that could affect your ability to wear contacts.

Drs. Alireza and Sana Somji will measure your eyes to fit you with the ideal type of contact lenses for the shape of your eye and vision condition. When fit properly, contacts can offer great vision benefits. If you have a hard-to-fit vision condition, such as keratoconus, high myopia, or irregular cornea, Drs. Alireza and Sana Somji will take as much time as necessary to make sure your lenses fit as comfortably as possible. We also specialize in fitting patients with ortho-k lenses, such as Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT).

The perfect eyeglasses must support your vision prescription, feel comfortable on your face, and flatter your appearance. When it comes to selecting the perfect pair of frames from our optical collection, our staff is experienced and knowledgeable to help you make the right choice.

Our friendly optometry team is here to help you see and look great!
