NUTRITION

Antioxidants are important weapons in protecting our eyes from conditions such as macular degeneration and cataracts.

It is probably a good idea for you to consider supplementing your diet with lutein and zeaxanthin. These two carotenoids form the yellow pigment of the retina and help protect the eye from harmful blue light.

Lutein is one of the yellow and orange pigments found in many fruits and vegetables such as:

  • carrots

  • dark, leafy greens (such as kale, collards and bok choy)

  • mangoes

  • squash

  • sweet potatoes

  • tomatoes

  • watermelon

Foods containing zeaxanthin include:

  • orange bell peppers

  • oranges

  • honeydew melon
